Honey Bees are Not Native
Tracy Teuscher
Honey bees are not native? Nope! These European bees are naturalized to the U.S. They bless us with healing hive products like honey, pollen, propolis and beeswax, but they are not native to Ohio.
Honeybees collect nectar to make honey that is stored as food, providing energy for flight, and heat for the hives in the winter. They produce more than they need, so beekeepers harvest the excess to share with us.
Did you know local honey has been used for thousands of years for medicinal purposes?
Beyond delicious, honey is a natural antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiallergenic.
It heals the skin including acne, burns and wounds, and aids digestion.
